Jesus has rescued us—not just from a dark castle, but from death and bondage to sin. Sometimes, though, I forget! I forget that I have a real enemy, Satan, who wants to put me in a prison of sin. I forget that I have a real rescuer, Jesus, who has already made a way for me to be saved. Do you forget sometimes too? Have you forgotten that you’re worth saving? Do you feel down and out, as if you’re not good enough? As if nobody loves you? Remember your Rescuer. He took off His royal robes and came down to our level.

It’s like having floaties on our arms. Our decisions are guided by what we know we can accomplish and where we know we’ll stay safe. And we put our faith in those things: our intelligence, good looks, athletic ability, musical talent, a likable personality, or... But faith in God is more than that. It’s standing on the end of the diving board without floaties and without anyone there to catch you, yet you know that when you jump, you’ll be okay. The Bible invites us to have faith like a child (Matthew 18:2-4).
